started teaching at Truman in 1983. Dr. Benevento usually
teaches Creative Writing (all levels), American Romanticism, American
Realism and Naturalism, and Latin American Lit (in translation). His current
writing interests are poetry, short fiction, novels, and creative
non-fiction.
"I grew up in a working class neighborhood in
Queens. I went NYU undergrad, then Ohio State and Michigan State
for MA and PhD. I enjoy singing, guitar, playing basketball and softball,
fishing. I speak Spanish and some Italian."
Dr. Benevento's favorite authors are Whitman, Poe,
Hawthorne, Borges, and García Márquez.
