began to teach at Truman in 1986, and he specializes in and
usually teaches American Literature, early modern to post-modern British
Literature, 20th Century World Literature, Film, Literary Theory, American
Studies, and Cultural Studies. His current research interests are revising
for publication book-length manuscripts in American nuclear culture and
avant-pop music; starting a project on American Catholicism in the
wake of Vatican II.
"I'm from
Milwaukee. I did my graduate work primarily at Duke University
(both MA and PhD). Aside from turning my hobbies into my areas of
specialization, I also like to cook for people and care for my 3 cats, 21
fish, and corn snake. I also like to sing and play crude synthesizer
and/or/as percussion."
Dr. Mielke's
favorite authors are James Joyce and Lester Bangs. His favorite text is Dhalgren by Samuel R. Delany.
